West Brom may be set for financial boost as £100k-plus FA Cup news emerges at The Hawthorns

West Brom started their FA Cup campaign in almost perfect fashion as they breezed past Aldershot Town with an impressive 4-1 win at The Hawthorns.

The Baggies were always expected to beat their non-league opposition and book their place in the fourth round, however, supporters would have been thrilled when they saw who they had been drawn to face in the next stage of the competition.

Carlos Corberan’s side will play host to either Brentford or Midlands rivals Wolves on Sunday 28 January as they look to bypass Premier League opposition and make their way into the fifth round of the FA Cup for the first time since the 2019/20 season.

While The Hawthorns will almost certainly be packed for this major cup clash, the Baggies are set to get their own financial boost off the field as well, as the game has been picked for live broadcast by ITV.

Some supporters may be frustrated that the kick-off time has now been moved to 11:45 on a Sunday, but financially, this decision is a huge boost for Albion as they will pocket a pretty penny having been named as one of the televised fixtures.

According to talkSPORT (5 January) teams that have been fortunate enough to be picked for TV coverage in the FA Cup third-round are able to earn upwards of £100,000 and that fee progressively increases as the cup competition rumbles on.

On top of the money from the broadcaster, the Baggies will earn a reasonable fee from a sold-out ground and further concessions, especially if the away end is full of Wolves fans who have made the journey across the Midlands, should they win the replay.

Should West Brom manage to win their fourth-round clash against either Premier League outfit, they will earn a prize sum of £9,375. While that is a much smaller fee than the TV money, it would be a huge boost to Albion as they wait for their takeover to be completed.

Regardless of the result or the opposition, Albion have already done rather well out of this fourth-round draw so far. Hopefully, they’ll be able to back up the positivity around the draw with their performance and progress into the fifth round of the FA Cup.
