BBC reporter tells West Brom fans to ‘note the name’ after what Tom Fellows did v Blackburn Rovers

Pat Murphy has tipped 20-year-old Tom Fellows as one to watch as the West Brom prospect starred in a 4-1 victory over Blackburn Rovers.

Carlos Corberan handed the right winger just his second league start of the season, and shortly after Adam Reach spurned an early chance to gift Fellows his second-ever Baggies assist, he fired home his second goal at the club.

Darnell Furlong’s long throw was latched onto by the academy graduate, slotting past Leopold Wahlstedt between the Rovers sticks, something the BBC reporter loved.

Following the first chance, Murphy said live on BBC Sports’ Squad Goals on Saturday (13 January, 3:08pm): “Tom Fellows, note the name. A very good young player, just one of six academy graduates in the squad.”

Six minutes later, Fellows scored the opener and the BBC reporter was quick to call the youngster “brave” as he threw everything to score West Brom’s first goal of the afternoon.

One for the future

It was hoped that after a season-long loan at Crawley Town last season, making 40 appearances in all competitions, Fellows would become a much more influential player under Corberan.

However, being deployed in the starting XI in just two of his 17 appearances during the current campaign, it has been a disappointing return for Fellows so far.

He proved how talented he is midweek as the Baggies defeated Aldershot Town 4-1 in the FA Cup Third Round, netting once and registering an assist. And Corberan will be glad he gave Fellows the opportunity to take that form into the league, opening the floodgates against Blackburn.

If the youngster can maintain his position in the starting XI, Fellows very much could be one to watch, especially with West Brom’s continuous injury woes in the attacking third of the pitch.

Though many will be shocked by Everton’s interest in the winger, as per Express and Star, Fellows has the potential to become a superstar. And Baggies fans will be hoping he reaches those heights during his time at The Hawthorns.

In other West Brom news, the Baggies are in advanced talks to sign Bristol City captain Andi Weimann.
