West Brom: Pundit baffled by Tom Fellows situation, expects him to make Premier League transfer – ‘My mind boggles’

Carlton Palmer has been left baffled by the situation surrounding Tom Fellows at West Brom following reports that a move to Everton could be on the cards.

Speaking to Football League World on Friday (12 January), the pundit said it’s going to prove “very difficult” for the Baggies to agree a deal with the 20-year-old as his contract runs out at the end of the season.

He added that Premier League clubs can offer the English winger a “huge salary” as he admitted that his “mind boggles” at how Albion have allowed themselves to get into this position.

“Everton are the latest club, it has emerged, to show interest in signing West Brom’s talented youngster Tom Fellows this January transfer window,” said Palmer. “The 20-year-old’s contract is set to expire at the end of the current campaign.

“The youngster has featured in 14 Championship games so far this season for West Bromwich Albion and the manager Corberan has hailed his importance to the squad. West Bromwich Albion need to get a deal agreed quickly, but that is going to prove very difficult now with a Premier League club sniffing around him.

“The Premier League clubs can offer him a huge salary, more than double West Bromwich Albion [can], and then loan him back out to the Championship.

“My mind boggles how West Brom could have allowed this situation to occur and get into this position.”

Uncomfortable

This is an extremely uncomfortable position for West Brom to be in as they now stand a real chance of losing one of their most promising talents.

Whether or not that could be on a cut-price deal this month or in the summer is yet to be seen, but either way, it would mark a huge blow to Carlos Corberan’s plans moving forward.

After spending last season out on loan with Crawley Town in League Two, Fellows has made 17 appearances for the Baggies during this campaign.

With the current injury crisis in the attacking positions, the winger has stepped in to provide a solid option off the bench for Albion and has even started the past two games.

Having scored his first goal for the club in the 4-1 FA Cup victory over Aldershot Town on 7 January, Corberan will be keen to tie him down to a new deal to fend off any potential suitors.
