West Brom target another January transfer for after Andi Weimann in new update from The Hawthorns

West Brom are targeting another attacking player in the January transfer window to follow Andreas Weimann to The Hawthorns, according to Steve Hermon.

The BBC WM journalist shared the update on Albion’s transfer plans on his personal Twitter page on Saturday (13 January).

That comes after Bristol Live [12 January] reported this week that versatile attacker Weimann is in advanced talks over a move from Bristol City.

And Albion will not stop there as they attempt to strengthen their squad for the remaining four months of the Championship campaign.

“As mentioned here & as reported elsewhere, former #AVFC & #wwfc forward Andi Weimann is a deal that #WBA are hoping to complete,” Hermon said.

“It won’t be the only deal though, with another attacking player being targeted in the January window.”

Have to be smart

Bringing in Weimann effectively cancels out losing Jeremy Sarmiento, who was recalled from his Brighton and Hove Albion loan spell before being sent immediately out to Ipswich Town.

Carlos Corberan has made it clear that he wants new additions this month, so bringing in Weimann alone will not be enough to appease the Spaniard.

West Brom may not have money available to bring in any big names, which would of course be nice when involved in a promotion push, but that is not to say there are not some gems out there.

The Baggies have to be smart and it may be a case of utilising the Premier League loan market, although the drawback of that is that they may have to wait until late in the window.

With Matt Phillips and Josh Maja sidelined, and Sarmiento gone, the attacking areas definitely need bolstering over the next few weeks.

If this update is anything to go by, then those above Corberan are fully aware of that and there may be some positive developments soon.

In other West Brom news, Don Goodman believes the Baggies are well-positioned to beat one of their Championship rivals to a Premier League player.
