Liam Manning speaks out as West Brom in advanced talks to sign Andi Weimann from Bristol City

Bristol City manager Liam Manning has spoken out about the potential departure of Andi Weimann to West Brom.

According to Bristol Live (12 January), the Baggies are in advanced talks to sign the Robins captain in the current transfer window.

Weimann was left out by Manning as Bristol City were defeated 2-0 by Preston North End in league action on Saturday (13 January).

When asked if Weimann is set to leave the club, Manning said, as quoted by Bristol Live (13 January): “It’s a possibility.

“It’s something that I don’t really want to talk about until it’s confirmed and finalised but, yeah, it’s a possibility it might happen.”

Exit likely

It is becoming increasingly likely that Weimann will make a switch this month, with the Austrian now in the final six months of his contract at Bristol City.

It would certainly be a good bit of business from West Brom, not least because they would be snapping up a captain from a Championship rival.

The latest results from both clubs certainly suggest that Bristol are in more need of Weimann than the Baggies, with the former losing to Preston and the latter defeating Blackburn Rovers 4-1 on the same day.

But Albion manager Carlos Corberan should still be keen to strengthen his attacking department given the tough run-in, and indeed the injuries that his forwards are likely to face in the coming months.

That area of his squad has been heavily impacted by various issues in recent times, so bolstering in the January transfer window is certainly a smart option.
