West Brom transfer news: Carlos Corberan identifies ideal January target at The Hawthorns
Carlos Corberan has outlined the exact type of player he wants West Brom to be targeting in the remainder of the January transfer window.
The Baggies are looking to bring in new players before the 1 February deadline, particularly after Jeremy Sarmiento’s loan deal was cut short.
Andreas Weimann is in advanced talks to join from Bristol City [Bristol Live, 12 January], while a number of other players have been linked.

That signing would fit the bill for Corberan, who is hoping to bring in English speaking players with experience of playing in the Championship.
“Is it better to have a player with experience in England? I think so,” he is quoted as saying by the Shropshire Star [13 January].
“Is it better the player speaks English? Yes, for his adaptation to the dressing room.
“Can you fix this? Yes, because we have players in the dressing room that speak French and Spanish and staff that speak Spanish too.
“Is it better you have experience before in the Championship? Yes, because the adaptation is less.”
Corberan added: “It’d be stupid for me to be planning with players I don’t have.
“I don’t know if any additions will happen [imminently]. Always in the market things happen that you cannot control.”
Credit to Corberan
West Brom’s need to strengthen has only increased since the January transfer window opened following the departure of Sarmiento.
While the Brighton and Hove Albion loanee was hardly a key player during his time at The Hawthorns, he was an attacking option for Corberan.
And options are exactly what are needed right now, particularly in the final third with Matt Phillips and Josh Maja also on the sidelines.

Weimann seems a solid addition should that deal be pushed over the line, but Corberan will still want at least one more – ideally two – signed.
The problem, of course, is that Albion are operating with one arm tied behind their backs due to the whole ownership situation.
It is credit to Corberan that he has ensured West Brom remain competitive, and hopefully he will be rewarded with the signings he is now after.
