West Brom would now love to sign Joe Gelhardt in Leeds United loan deal as Elland Road transfer update emerges

West Brom manager Carlos Corberan love to sign Leeds United striker Joe Gelhardt on loan, according to Alan Nixon.

The Sun journalist reported on his Patreon on Sunday (14 January) that the Whites want full wages from any potential promotion rival.

Nixon added that it may be more convenient to send the player to Scotland, with both Rangers and Celtic showing an interest.

On the move?

Gelhardt has struggled for game time under Daniel Farke this season, with the youngster featuring for just over 300 minutes in all competitions.

The 21-year-old has played just six league matches and appeared twice in the League Cup, with a January exit undoubtedly the best solution for the attacker at this stage of his career.

A temporary move would certainly make sense, allowing Farke to keep tabs on the player and perhaps bring him back into the fold after gaining some much-needed experience elsewhere.

But it is unlikely that the Whites would allow a player to move to a Championship rival, even if Gelhardt is not a key man for Farke.

West Brom sit just six points behind Leeds in the league table, with the two clubs perhaps set for a lengthy promotion battle in the coming months.

Both sides picked up important wins on Saturday (13 January), with Leeds defeating Cardiff City 3-0 and West Brom beating Blackburn Rovers 4-1.

Unfortunately for Gelhardt, his fellow attackers Patrick Bamford, Daniel James and Georginio Rutter all scored in the routine win.

But even though West Brom had no trouble finding the back of the net, Corberan may just provide Gelhardt with a temporary way out of Elland Road as he looks to bolster his attacking options.
