Karlan Grant and Curtis Davies react as ex-West Brom man Robert Snodgrass shares retirement news

Karlan Grant and Curtis Davies have congratulated former West Brom winger Robert Snodgrass after he announced his retirement from football.

The 36-year-old made just 15 appearances for the Baggies in a year-long spell at the club. But his legendary status in football made him a fan-favourite right from the start, with former players flocking from all over to wish him well.

The former Scotland international, who played for 10 different clubs at senior level, accumulating 637 appearances while registering 118 goals and 104 assists, announced his retirement via Instagram.

Grant, who is currently on loan at Cardiff City away from The Hawthorns, commented: “Some man. Wish you all the best, mate.”

The West Brom loanee was joined by Davies, who wrote: “Congrats on a great career, mate. One of the best characters and players I’ve had the pleasure of playing alongside. Enjoy your retirement,” followed by a love heart emoji.

End of an era

Snodgrass absolutely deserves all the plaudits and attention he has received since announcing his retirement from football.

The former Leeds United and West Ham midfielder was a joy to watch, even in his later years when minutes on the pitch were harder to come by.

The Scot joined West Brom in January 2021 from West Ham, having made 71 appearances for the Hammers. And while only a brief stay in the Midlands, Snodgrass won the hearts of Baggies supporters to add to his collection of fans across the UK.

Ince

On his day, Snodgrass was one of the most intelligent, goal-threatening, energetic, box-to-box midfielders there were. And though at the age of 36, having moved back to Scotland to play for Hearts, it was clear his footballing days were over, but the footballing world came together to congratulate him on such an outstanding career.

Many young footballers will hope to finish their careers with the same stats as Snodgrass, impressing at every club he joined throughout his career.
