West Brom fans will be ready for Black Country Derby after what Wolves star Matheus Cunha said
West Brom fans will be even more up for the Black Country Derby clash in the FA Cup on 28 January after Wolves star Matheus Cunha spoke about making history.
As always with games of this nature, talk between both sets of fans and players gets everybody up for it, and with an almost three-year break between meetings, the fans need no second invitation to get ready.
The Brazilian referenced having played in hostile games such as Argentina against Brazil and the Madrid derby in his career so far, stating he is now looking forward to playing the Baggies.
As shared by The Athletic [17 January], Cunha proclaimed: “I’ve played Brazil vs Argentina, Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid. Now I really want to play Wolves vs West Brom and make history.”
It’s funny Cunha should mention history ahead of the Black Country derby because as things stand, the Baggies have had the rub of the green in terms of results in this fixture. Out of 162 times these teams have met, Albion have won 65, 44 have been drawn, and Wolves have won 53.
In fact, even in recent history, West Brom have been the favourable team in the derby. While Wolves are in a higher division than Albion currently, the Baggies have lost just three of the past 23 Black Country derbies.
Carlos Corberan’s side will take confidence from the fact the fixture will be played in front of their home crowd, where they have lost just one of their last 11 games and go into each clash confident of earning a result.

The first-ever meeting between West Brom and Wolves came in the FA Cup, a clash which the Baggies won 3-2 as the home side in January 1886. Now, 138 years later, they will be looking for history to repeat itself, as they face off, in January, at The Hawthorns.
In other West Brom news, the upcoming derby was discussed live on talkSPORT.
