West Brom now want to sign Birmingham star Jordan James as £8.6m January transfer update emerges
West Brom have entered the fight for Birmingham City midfielder Jordan James during the January transfer window, according to Corriere Della Sera Bergamo.
The Italian newspaper reported in its print edition on Sunday (21 January) that the Baggies are one of the latest teams to have become interested in the 19-year-old and are joined by Newcastle, Brentford, Brighton, Fiorentina and Atalanta.
Competition for James’ signature is only growing currently meaning that it is becoming increasingly more difficult for Atalanta to secure the teenager’s services as they look to complete a bargain transfer, despite Birmingham demanding £8.6million [€10million].

Non-starter
While it will be exciting for West Brom supporters to finally hear the Baggies slinked with a January transfer given the slow start to the window so far, this feels like it could well be a total non-starter given the price tag involved.
West Brom are massively restricted financially at the moment as they await the completion of a takeover at The Hawthorns and until that deal gets over the line, it seems almost impossible that Albion will be able to pay nearly £10million, let alone outbid the likes of Newcastle.
The loan and free-agent market are much more likely to be the avenues explored by Carlos Corberan and his recruitment team this month, as demonstrated by the acquisition of Andi Weimann on a temporary basis from Bristol City.
You can never say never in football, particularly during the transfer window, but West Brom supporters shouldn’t be rushing to get out and buy their Albion shirts with James on the back.
