West Brom must act now to avoid Tom Fellows exit as concerning transfer news emerges at the Hawthorns

West Brom must act now to avoid Tom Fellows leaving the club in the near future after a development has emerged.

The Daily Mail reported on page nine of its print edition on Saturday (20 January) that Premier League side Everton and Championship rivals Leicester City are tracking the 20-year-old closely ahead of potential moves.

The English winger has broken into the Albion side under Carlos Corberan in recent weeks, but his contract is due to expire at the end of the season.

That means the interested parties could potentially look to sign him on a cut-price deal in the January transfer window or wait to snap him up once his deal comes to an end.

While the Baggies would still be entitled to receive a fee for him if that were to happen because of his age, it would still be met with great disappointment by the fans.

Fellows has been at the Hawthorns since joining the club’s U-10s side, so there has been a lot of work put into his development over the past decade.

The winger went out on loan to Crawley Town last season, where he didn’t quite put up the numbers he would have hoped for in terms of statistics, but he did make 40 appearances.

That experience put him in a reasonable place to come back to West Brom and see if he can earn a few minutes here and there during this campaign.

While he played a bit-part role before Christmas, he’s suddenly emerged as a potentially big player for Corberan in the past few weeks, starting the first two games of this calendar year.

He put in an excellent performance in the 4-1 victory over Blackburn Rovers on 13 January, where he scored the first goal of his professional career.

There were concerns raised ahead of the game against Norwich City on Saturday that he could be on his way out of the club when he wasn’t included in the matchday squad.

But it emerged that the academy product was absent due to a sickness bug that’s been going around the camp over the past few days, relieving some of the fears over a potential exit in the near future.

While he may not be leaving before the transfer window slams shut in the next 10 days, there is no doubt that Albion need to sort his contract situation out as soon as possible.

It shouldn’t have been allowed to get to this point, but they do still have time to ensure his long-term future will be with the club that have put so much time and effort into his development.
