West Brom transfer news as Lewis Cox moots new ‘sacrifice’ to get late double January deal over the line
Lewis Cox has suggested that West Brom may still be able to complete two more signings during the January transfer window, even after Jayson Molumby’s injury.
The Express & Star journalist had reported on Monday (22 January) that Carlos Corberan was unlikely to be granted his wish of two further additions at The Hawthorns due to the extremely limited finances available to the Baggies boss.
With Molumby set for a spell on the sidelines, a new midfielder and a winger are desired by Corberan and, while it will be hard, Cox believes Albion could well “manoeuvre” their finances to get both additions over the line.
Speaking on the Baggies Broadcast podcast (23 January, 21:30) he said: “Those are discussions that will be happening and have been happening over the weekend just gone. In an ideal world, there are finances there to manoeuvre another two.
“Obviously we expected another winger to arrive and now Corberan is saying that he might need another centre-midfielder in. Can they make it happen? Can they fudge it around?
“Might it be one where they had X amount to maybe offer in a loan wage for a winger, they may now have to come down and make it work for two and that obviously limits the calibre of player you can go for unfortunately.
“That might be the sacrifice that they may have to make in terms of getting two in.”
Sacrifice
Ultimately, the remainder of the January window at The Hawthorns will come down to just what level of player Albion are hoping to sign this month. If they want big names who will make an impact, they will likely be only able to make one further addition.
However, if they are willing to pay a little less for slightly lower-level players, they might be able to find a way to make their budget stretch to two new additions, however, they may not have as big an impact in the remainder of the campaign.

It will be interesting to see which approach Corberan and the rest of the West Brom recruitment team take for the remainder of the window, as it is clear they need reinforcements in a number of different areas before the month is up.
Hopefully, whichever way the Baggies look to take their business, Albion will have enough quality in their ranks to secure a place in the Championship play-off places.
In other West Brom news, the Baggies reportedly are interested in a £8.6million move for one Championship star this month
