West Brom injury news: Doctor issues update on Matt Phillips post hamstring surgery
We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at West Brom.
West Brom winger Matt Phillips may be out for longer than what was initially feared due to his hamstring surgery, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.
The BBC reported on 6 December that the 32-year-old will be missing four months after an injury picked up in the game against Leicester.
The injury expert claims that it could even be longer than the first week of April and that he’s currently a long way away from returning to training.
Speaking exclusively with West Brom News about Phillips’ situation, Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and Sports Scientist, said:
“Phillips underwent hamstring surgery in early December and is likely to miss upwards of four months so it may even be beyond early April which would be exactly four months.
“The club physios will gradually be working on muscle mobility, strength and control.
“Currently, he is a long way away from returning to even individual training.“
The 32-year-old suffered a season-ending injury in 2022/23 and will be hoping that he recovers quicker this time around.
The Scotland international’s contract runs out at the end of the season so it remains to be seen whether or not the Baggies decide to hand him a new deal.

He has been an extremely versatile asset, playing in attack, midfield and defence as well and Carlos Corberan will certainly want him back in action as soon as possible.
In other West Brom news, the Baggies are now extremely keen on securing a deal for a Premier League striker in January who made headlines this season.
