West Brom transfer news as deadline-busting risk now on cards – Finance Expert

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive West Brom columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns...

Dan Plumley has insisted that West Brom could take some late risks by pushing for multiple new transfers before the February 1 deadline.

The finance expert admitted that the Baggies could land the reward of a promotion jackpot to the Premier League, but the risks are tricky given the financial picture at The Hawthorns.

It comes after Carlos Corberan admitted that he is looking at another attacker, but a new midfielder too after the injury picked up by Jayson Molumby.

“It’s tricky at West Brom at the minute for a whole manner of reasons,” he exclusively told West Brom News.

“The January transfer window is always tight, we’ve talked a lot about clubs that have got parachute payments in that league and what West Brom are competing with now they’re not in the parachute payment mix and it is really tough.

We know that the margins are fine financially at that club, but you are also in a situation at this point looking at the table, do you have a realistic chance of getting into the playoffs? Yes. Does that come with a huge amount of reward if you can land the jackpot? Yes.

Those will be balanced into the conversations, so it is really fine margins because whenever you’ve got the opportunity to push into the playoffs, I’m sure the club and the fan base will be looking at that as it’s been a few seasons of real hurt for those fans.

The financial reality of that is you do get a bit of that risk and reward scenario and there is risk in that strategy as well given the finances of the club.”

In other West Brom news, Plumley has also predicted that a change of ownership is needed at The Hawthorns
