Steve Bull struggles to rip piece of paper as he aims dig at West Brom ahead of clash v Wolves

Ex-Wolves striker Steve Bull struggled to rip a piece of paper as he aimed a dig at West Brom ahead of the Black Country derby.

West Brom and Wolves will meet at The Hawthorns on Sunday 28 January in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Ahead of the match, Bull, who scored 306 goals for Wolves, and lifelong Baggies fan Dave “Blind Dave” Heeley discussed their feelings going into the clash.

Bull was in a confident mood, claiming “We’re (Wolves) going to give you a good, good game. It is going to be a frightening game, a scary game and fingers crossed our Premiership team comes through nicely. Wolves are going to win that game.”

After struggling momentarily, Bull ripped up a piece of paper with the West Brom badge on it, before saying “Get me a bowl to wash my hands”, (Express and Star, 25 January).

Nerves

With three days left to go, it appears the fun has already begun and supporters will be starting to feel the nerves ahead of what promises to be a huge showdown on Sunday.

Bull’s antics should certainly act as motivation for the West Brom players who will be looking to get one over their fierce rivals from the Premier League, and recent history suggests they have every chance of doing just that.

It has been almost three years since the two sides last met, a 1-1 draw at the Hawthorns at the end of the 2020/21 Premier League season (3 May 2021), and while they haven’t gone head to head often over the past 15 years when they have met, it is the Baggies who have usually left the happier of the two sides.

West Brom

Wolves have not beaten their local rivals in almost 13 years, since a 3-1 win in the Premier League at Molineux on 8 May 2011, and haven’t tasted victory against West Brom away from home since 1996.
