West Brom: Journo outlines third January transfer Carlos Corberan wants to make at The Hawthorns
West Brom manager Carlos Corberan is still hoping to bring in a midfielder before the January transfer window closes, according to Lewis Cox.
The Baggies confirmed the arrival of Callum Marshall from West Ham on loan for the remainder of the season on Friday (26 January).
Andreas Weimann has also been added to the squad on loan from Bristol City, albeit that was offset by the departure of Jeremy Sarmiento out wide.
Express & Star reporter Cox says a midfielder is now being eyed up after Jayson Molumby was ruled out for around three months.
Writing on his personal Twitter page [26 January], Cox said of Marshall’s arrival: “Cup tied for Sun. Made his WHU senior bow as late sub v Bristol City in third round.
“Interesting it looks like out and out striker, rather than wide player. Corberan looking for midfield option too with Molumby surgery set for Mon.”
Get it done
Despite having to operate with one arm tied behind their backs, West Brom’s transfer department have now managed to pull off two decent moves this month.
Weimann is an experienced option who, while not one to exactly get the pulses racing, offers a more-than-adequate – and versatile – option in attack for the rest of the season.
Marshall is hardly a household name, but the general consensus is that he is a very talented player who will be a West Ham regular one day.
The youngster has scored plenty of goals at Under-21s level and will now get a chance to show what he can do at senior level on a regular basis.
If Corberan’s being greedy, another forward player would yet be welcome as Daryl Dike cannot be relied upon to stay fit for the rest of the season.
Top of the priority list is a new central midfielder, though, and there has to be real hope of now finding one with just under a week of the window still to go.
Should that be the case, it will be a very impressive transfer window for the Baggies given the circumstances.
