West Brom: ‘Pretty unique’ Callum Marshall development emerges after West Ham United loan move

New West Brom attacker Callum Marshall has family ties to the Baggies, as confirmed by the youngster’s uncle.

As per the official West Brom website (26 January), the striker has moved to The Hawthorns on loan from West Ham.

The 19-year-old made his debut for the East London club earlier this month in their FA Cup third round replay against Bristol City.

“Delighted that our young nephew Callum is joining West Brom for the rest of the season,” the player’s uncle wrote on X (26 January).

“A great opportunity for him… but my wife Bernadette Vernon, whose Uncle Jackie (Vernon) was captain for the club some years back is even more delighted… Nephew and uncle – pretty unique!”

Bright future

Marshall has already proven his ability in East London this season, with the youngster banging in 19 goals for the club’s under-21s.

He is also already a Northern Ireland international, but the striker looks certain to have a very bright future in the game, both for club and country.

West Ham clearly value the attacker as one for the future, with Marshall signing a new three-year deal at the London Stadium before making his loan switch to West Brom.

The teenager will have been delighted to have finally made his senior debut for the Hammers, but unfortunately it has repercussions for the Baggies, with the forward now cup-tied for the Black Country derby meeting with Wolves on Sunday (28 January).

Albion manager Carlos Corberan would have surely been eager to hand Marshall a debut in that highly-anticipated clash, but the loanee will have to wait for his Baggies bow, which could come against Birmingham City next Saturday (3 February).

In other West Brom news, a Premier League player has sent a three-word message to Andi Weimann after a career milestone for the forward.
