BBC Sport journalist details what West Brom and Wolves fans did in Hawthorns controversy

Misiles were thrown by both the West Brom and Wolves fans when the game was halted due to crowd trouble, according to Simon Stone.

Writing on the BBC Sport website on Sunday (28 January), the journalist said there were “loads of police and stewards” trying and get the situation “under control” following the ugly scenes that broke out after Matheus Cunha’s goal.

He added that a fan was taken past him after fighting broke out inside the Hawthorns, with “huge numbers of police” seen trying to restore order.

“There are loads of police and stewards in the far corner trying to get the situation under control,” said Stone. “Immediately after Matheus Cunha’s goal, missiles were thrown from into and out of the visitors section.

“The fighting started at the other end of the stadium. A fan has been taken past me by police. There are huge numbers of police in the far corner trying to restore order.”

Disgraceful

The scenes that were spotted inside the Hawthorns were an absolute disgrace as trouble broke out amongst the supporters, delaying the game for several minutes.

While it was only a small number of people that were involved in the incident, it’s the last thing real football fans want to see happening.

There were concerns raised about this fixture, which led to it being scheduled for 11:45am, with the police fearing trouble could break out.

It just ruins the occasion for those supporters who will have been looking forward to this game since the pair were pulled out of the hat together three weeks ago.

It also means that both clubs could be subject to heavy fans or there may be restrictions placed on the amount of fans allowed in the stadium the next time they play each other.
