Don Goodman shares new West Brom verdict after Andreas Weimann transfer business

We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Don Goodman as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns.

Don Goodman believes Andreas Weimann can be a “brilliant addition” to the West Brom squad after joining from Bristol City.

Albion confirmed the loan signing of experienced forward Weimann from their fellow Championship club on 15 January.

The Austria international has spent 10 seasons in the second tier with Watford, Derby County, Wolves and Bristol City.

Weimann struggled for form at Ashton Gate in the first half of 2023-24, but he scored and assisted a combined 43 goals in the past two seasons.

Having already featured for West Brom since making the switch from Bristol City, Goodman likes what he sees – especially with Daryl Dike and Brandon Thomas-Asante also capable of finding the net.

“I think what’s good for Carlos Corberan at the minute is that they’ve also recently got Dike back fit,” he told West Brom News.

“His return helps ease the burden when you also factor in Weimann and Brandon Thomas-Asante – three decent Championship-level attackers

“Each of those can play down the middle. And if you get the best version of Weimann, you’re in business.

“In the recent loss to Norwich City, they each had chances and for most parts of the game they were equal to Norwich.

“Weimann is a good player at this level who can score goals and also assist.

“Looking at his assists tally, he had five in a relatively poor Bristol City team last season; 22 goals the season before, 10 assists.

“Although he’s now knocking on a bit at 32, if they can get him match sharp and get the best version of him then I think he’s a brilliant addition.”
