Henry Winter wants FA action after ‘shocking’ scenes in West Brom v Wolves at The Hawthorns

Henry Winter says it is “inevitable” the Football Association (FA) will hold hold an inquiry into the “shocking” events that happened during the FA Cup tie between West Brom and Wolves.

Wolves’ 2-0 fourth-round win at The Hawthorns on Sunday (28 January) was overshadowed by crowd trouble in the aftermath of Matheus Cunha’s strike 12 minutes from time.

Play was suspended and both sets of players taken off the pitch, before the contest was eventually allowed to play to its conclusion.

Writing on his personal Twitter account [28 January], The Times reporter Winter said: “Shocking scenes at The Hawthorns. Safety and security are paramount.

“Then police/court work processing offenders, banning orders, inevitable FA inquiry and renewed debate about size of allocations.”

Shame

To say the scenes that unfolded at The Hawthorns were unsettling is an understatement.

The ins and outs are still not fully clear, but either way it completely overshadowed the Black Country derby.

To make matters worse, it was watched by millions of people given it was aired live on ITV.

The club’s reputation has unfortunately taken a hit, and now we potentially have weeks and months of fall-out as we learn what actually happened.

As Winter says, the FA will take a look into the scenes – probably as a priority given how widely it has been discussed – and it could well be that West Brom face action.

The match itself was one to forget for Albion as they fell to a disappointing loss, but unfortunately it is not going to be a game we can forget about anytime soon.
