Sky Sports pundit fumes at ‘terrible’ Alex Mowatt for what he did in West Brom loss v Wolves at The Hawthorns

Sky Sports pundit Dean Ashton slammed Alex Mowatt for his “terrible” corner that led to the opening goal for Wolves in their win over West Brom.

Mowatt attempted to tee up Jed Wallace on the edge of the box, but the pass was intercepted and ultimately ended with Pedro Neto scoring.

West Brom did not help themselves by only leaving one player back, but Ashton pointed the finger at one Albion player in particular.

The footage of the goal, which was later added to by Matheus Cunha, was shared by ITV Football via their Twitter account [28 January].

“That’s a disaster for West Brom,” he said live on talkSPORT [18 January, 12:27pm].

“It happened earlier in the season against Leicester City – they just don’t leave players back. It’s a terrible corner.”

Poor all-around

From the corner routine itself to the West Brom defending, this was a horrible goal for the home side to concede.

West Brom had some very good periods in the first half, but this first error of the contest was pounced on by Wolves.

Forgetting the attempted pass from Mowatt for now, why on earth was only one player left up against a side that loves to counter-attack?

It looked as though the plan was for two others to also stay back, but one touch from Matt Doherty took them out of the game.

As Ashton pointed out, the same thing happened against Leicester recently, albeit in different circumstances in terms of the game state.

Due to what happened off the pitch later in the game, this incident in the match will likely soon be forgotten about by supporters.

However, Carlos Corberan must ensure it does not happen for a third time this season.

In other West Brom news, a young player has been sent out on loan by the Baggies.
