Carlos Corberan drops West Brom transfer verdict ahead of February 1 deadline

West Brom boss Carlos Corberan has mooted further signings ahead of the closing of the transfer window, with two loan deals already completed.

The Baggies have seen Andreas Weimann arrive from Bristol City on a six-month loan deal, with West Ham youngster Callum Marshall also joining The Hawthorns for six months.

However, with just two full days remaining of the current transfer window, Corberan may have just pushed West Brom fans to the edge of their seats after admitting that this is “not a moment to limit ourselves”.

Speaking to BirminghamLive on Tuesday (30 January), he said, “I think it is not a moment to limit ourselves right now. Is the market different to the summer market? Yes, because you have less time.

“In the winter market, it is the time you are playing games, you don’t have the international break until March, so it’s totally different. In summer you have 12 months in front to work with the players, in winter four months to work with the players.

“Do I see these as part of something to consider? Yes. Is it better to have a player with experience in England? I think so. Is it better the player speaks English? Yes, for his adaptation to the dressing room. Can you fix this? Yes, because we have players in the dressing room that speak French, and Spanish and staff that speak Spanish too.”

Reading too much into it?

Corberan has led West Brom to a brilliant position, with the club currently sitting in fifth place, two points above Sunderland outside the playoff spots.

If the Baggies are to maintain their spot in the table, or even push for a higher position, Corberan must have a decent selection of players to be able to prepare for all possible outcomes, especially including injuries.

The departure of Jeremy Sarmiento was already frustrating enough, with the Ecuadorian already proving his capabilities at Ipswich Town, scoring two goals in his last two appearances.

Weimann and Marshall will certainly be appreciated arrivals at the club this month but there is no denying that the right signings would help a surge up the Championship table.

The last thing that West Brom want is to drop out of the playoff spots. The club can show how serious they are about fighting for Premier League football with any potential incoming before the transfer window closes.
