Deadline-day double deal now on cards at The Hawthorns as West Brom await Mikey Johnston green light
West Brom are waiting for a green light from Celtic after winger Mikey Johnston was identified as a key loan target and may have to wait until deadline day, according to the Express and Star.
The newspaper shared via its website on 30 January that the club are working hard to sign a winger on loan this month following the arrivals of Andreas Weimann and Callum Marshall.
It is also said that Carlos Corberan would like to bring in a new midfielder after a winger to address the shortages in that department after Jayson Molumby was ruled out for the rest of the season with a foot injury.
A double deal on the cards
Despite their limited budget meaning Albion would be forced to explore the loan market this month, a double deadline-day deal could now be on the cards at The Hawthorns as they look to make their budget stretch.
The interest in Johnston emerged at the start of the month, with a new winger one of the priorities since Jeremy Sarmiento was recalled from his loan by Brighton, and after Celtic’s Leil Abada returned from injury, that move could be back on.
Abada’s return has sent Johnston back down the pecking order at Celtic [Daily Record, 29 January], potentially opening the door for the Baggies to swoop, but they will need to wait for the Glasgow giants to make a decision with time ticking.

With Corberan asking for a new midfielder following Molumby’s injury, that has shot up the list of priorities at West Brom. Although no player was named, they will likely look to do the deal after they learn Celtic’s stance.
If they are made to wait until deadline-day to sign Johnston, a double deal could be on the cards on 1 February.
