Fabrizio Romano names winner in West Brom race to sign Loizois Loizou as done deal confirmed

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Loizos Loizou has joined Heerenveen on loan from Nicosia despite interest from West Brom this month.

Writing on his personal Twitter account (30 January), the reliable transfer journalist reports that the attacker has completed his move to the Netherlands despite interest from the Baggies, Anderlecht, Plymouth and clubs in Italy too.

Carlos Corberan is keen to add a new forward to the squad after losing Jeremy Sarmiento at the start of the window after he was recalled by Brighton, with Andreas Weimann the only addition so far in this window.

“Loizos Loizou joins Heerenveen from Nicosia on loan until the end of the season, confirmed,” he wrote.

“Heerenveen option selected ahead of Anderlecht, Plymouth, West Brom and clubs in Italy.”

Blow

Corberan has been using his squad so well this season despite being bogged down by injuries and bad form at times, and attack has been a bigger issue than most.

Daryl Dike is still battling to return to full fitness, while Josh Maja is out for a while and all of John Swift, Jed Wallace, Matt Phillips and Grady Diangana suffering with injuries at different points.

There have been plenty of links to attackers in this window but there has been very little success, and with time running out the club really need to find a way to help the manager out.

Corberan has been doing a fantastic job since coming to The Hawthorns but there is only so much he can do with the current tools at his disposal, and until he is backed in the window properly it’s possible that the team has hit a ceiling at what can be achieved.

Hopefully that is wrong, but this is another failed transfer chase and time is running out to give the manager and the team exactly what they need.
