Mel Eves blasts ‘stupid’ Wolves fan after what he allegedly did amid crowd trouble v West Brom at The Hawthorns

Mel Eves has blasted one “stupid” Wolves supporter after it was alleged that he goaded the West Brom supporters during the FA Cup clash at The Hawthorns.

Wolves won the fourth-round tie on Sunday (28 January) 2-0 thanks to goals from Pedro Neto and Matheus Cunha, but the main talking point from the fixture was the fact that the tie was postponed for 30 minutes due to crowd trouble in the second half.

Away supporters had bought tickets among the home crowd and celebrated Cunha’s goal, with former Wolves forward Eves slamming the a who allegedly provoked the West Brom supporters who were sitting around him in the crowd.

Speaking BBC Radio WM (28 January, 17:50) he said: “It’s just put the dampeners on it what has happened. The gentleman who came on with his lad as you said and pointed out that it was one Wolves supporter who got up and goaded. I mean how stupid is that?

“How on earth he has got in and then done that? why that supporter wasn’t sorted out very quickly by one of the stewards I don’t know. That will be looked into, it’s just put a massive dampener on it.”

Stupid moment

The sort of scenes seen during Sunday’s FA Cup clash no longer have a place in football and were a real reminder of the events often seen in the dark ages of the British game back in the 1970s and 80s.

While the actions of the West Brom supporters were ugly and not what anybody wanted to see, it seems ridiculous that Wolves fans were even able to buy and remain sat in seats among the home crowd for such a feisty fixture.

West Brom

Sunday’s clash should have been one of the biggest and best days of both sides’ seasons as they finally got to face their black country rivals in front of a crowd for the first time in almost 12 years, but instead, it was overshadowed.

Hopefully, the “stupid” supporters involved will get the right punishment to stop this sort of thing from happening again as it has no place in the modern game.
