Fabrizio Romano drops West Brom and Chaka Toure transfer update amid AC Milan agreement speculation
West Brom are not signing AC Milan forward Chaka Traore, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Italian journalist reported via his personal X account on Wednesday night (31 January) that Traore, 19, is instead set to join Palermo on loan for the remainder of the season.
CalcioMercato reported on Tuesday (30 January) that Albion had agreed a loan deal with AC Milan but it seems the Ivorian attacker has agreed to stay in Italy and sign for Serie B promotion-hopefuls Palermo.
Onto the next one?
Albion have signed two players this month – two more than what many fans would have expected.
Andi Weimann and Callum Marshall have both arrived on loan from Bristol City and West Ham respectively, adding a couple of extra attacking options for Carlos Corberan.
It would have been nice to have Traore as well to add yet another string to Corberan’s bow but with Grady Diangana due to return from AFCON in the coming weeks, it seems like it could be a waste of a deal.
There are just over 24 hours to go before the transfer window slams shut and if the Baggies can through it with two new signings and just one player leaving – Jeremy Sarmiento was recalled from his loan by Brighton only to head out to Ipswich on loan instead – that cannot be considered to be too bad.
Due to the financial issues at The Hawthorns, many would have expected more senior players to be linked with moves away. Jed Wallace, John Swift and Brandon Thomas-Asante were all linked with late moves in the summer transfer window.
Corberan has overseen back-to-back losses against Norwich and Wolves and it remains to be seen if a quiet transfer window is a good transfer window for the Baggies.
However, due to the ongoing takeover situation and the lack of funding from Guochuan Lai, it was always going to be a tough month to negotiate.
