West Brom: Chris Lepkowski shares takeover ‘concern’ at The Hawthorns
Chris Lepkowski has shared his “concern” over the continued delay regarding the West Brom takeover situation.
The former Birmingham Mail reporter was reacting to the development that Chris Farnell is looking to purchase a minority stake in the club.
According to BBC Sport [29 January], the Cheshire-based lawyer has proof that he has the funds to buy a little under 10 per cent of the Baggies.
However, with little concrete movement on the takeover front after months of speculation, Lepkowski is growing anxious.
“We’re about to enter February, the transfer window is almost behind us and we’re running out of money, so it’s concerning,” he said on The Liquidator podcast [30 January].
“The lack of clarity around this – and I know we won’t get full clarity until things are rubber-stamped – but we’ve spoken about this delay before, why there is a delay, why it will take a long time, and this story adds another dimension to it. But it’s not a story that has me excited in any way.”
Dragging on
There was real hope among the Albion fanbase that a new owner – or owners – would be in place at The Hawthorns in time for the January transfer window.
That has not proved the case, though, and it remains to be seen just how much longer the talks will drag on before Guochuan Lai is finally ousted.
Takeovers are a notoriously a long and drawn-out process, but West Brom’s financial situation is precarious to say the least and funds will be needed soon.
If this situation continues into spring time, there will be serious concerns regarding how Albion will be able to afford the day-to-day running costs – let alone signing any new players in the summer.
Supporters will just be hoping that the situation is resolved soon so that the club can finally move on to what will hopefully be an exciting next chapter.
