Aston Villa decide on Calum Chambers exit on Deadline Day as West Brom discuss last-ditch transfer

West Brom are in talks with Aston Villa over a move for Calum Chambers, with the defender allowed to leave Villa Park.

That is according to The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath, with the journalist reporting for the publication’s website on Thursday (1 February) that several Championship clubs are interested in his signature.

Former Arsenal centre-back Chambers has made just three appearances under Unai Emery in all competitions this season.

Exit likely

It looks very likely that Chambers will leave the billionaire-owned Villa before the winter transfer window comes to a close, with the player left out in the cold by Emery this season.

The manager has instead turned to the likes of Ezri Konsa and summer signature Pau Torres, as well as loanee Clement Lenglet.

Tyrone Mings meanwhile will simply push Chambers further down the pecking order when the former returns from his long-term injury.

An exit should reignite the player, and with 176 Premier League appearances to his name, West Brom fans will be licking their lips at the prospect of Chambers moving to The Hawthorns.

Should he arrive, it remains to be seen exactly how Chambers would fit in under Carlos Corberan, with the likes of Cedric Kipre, Kyle Bartley and Semi Ajayi all impressing this season.

West Brom

But at 29, the central defender still has a lot to give both on and off the pitch, and should really improve the club’s promotion hopes this season. The Baggies currently sit fifth in the Championship table.
