Celtic now ready to let James Forrest leave in triple Deadline Day exit as West Brom set to loan Mikey Johnston
Celtic are ready to let three players leave on transfer deadline day with Mikey Johnston all set to join West Brom, according to Alex Crook.
The TalkSPORT journalist shared on his personal X account (1 February) that the Scottish Premiership champions and league leaders are prepared to allow David Turnbull, James Forrest and Albion-bound Johnston leave the club ahead of the 11:30pm deadline in Scotland.
Telegraph journalist John Percy shared that Johnston is on the verge of a move to The Hawthorns with a medical pencilled in ahead of a loan move until the end of the season.
Crook posted: “Busy day of exits at Celtic with David Turnbull set to join Cardiff City and Mikey Johnston moving to West Brom on loan. Also told they are open to offers for long-serving James Forrest.”
Top Baggies deal
Johnston has long been in search of some regular game time elsewhere and it appears as if West Brom could be the move he needs with Celtic undergoing a strong firesale on deadline day.
The 24-year-old attacker has made 12 appearances in all competitions this season, registering two goals and two assists so possesses the qualities to make an immediate impact.
He may well be leaving a title challenge to join a promotion play-off race but it’s all the same when you need to play football and this could end up being a real coup for the Albion.
Carlos Corberan now possesses a stocked attack after the signings of Callum Marshall, Andreas Weimann and now Johnston to compensate for the injuries and absences in his squad.
His pace and direct running should provide Corberan with a different option, whether it be from the start or from the bench.
Like Weimann, Johnston also has plenty of valuable experience, with the winger having represented Scottish giants Celtic 92 times.
He also has eight Republic of Ireland caps and two Republic of Ireland goals to his name, having recently entered the international scene, making his debut last year.
Experience is an underrated commodity in a playoff chase and the Baggies now have an abundance of it in their arsenal.
