Medical scheduled: West Brom set to sign Mikey Johnston as last-gasp news emerges from Celtic – John Percy
West Brom are set to sign Mikey Johnston on loan from Celtic on Deadline Day, according to The Telegraph journalist John Percy.
The journalist reported via X on Thursday (1 February) that the winger is set to undergo a medical ahead of his temporary switch to The Hawthorns.
The 24-year-old attacker has made 12 appearances in all competitions this season, registering two goals and two assists.
Great signing
West Brom have already bolstered their attack in the winter transfer window in the form of Andi Weimann, who recently joined for the remainder of the season from Bristol City.
His experience will be key for Carlos Corberan’s side going forward as they look to really drive their Championship promotion campaign.
And now the forward will be joined in the final third by Johnston, with the Republic of Ireland international another great addition for the Baggies.
His pace and direct running should provide Corberan with a different option, whether it be from the start or from the bench.
Like Weimann, Johnston also has plenty of valuable experience, with the winger having represented Scottish giants Celtic 92 times.
He also has eight Republic of Ireland caps and two Republic of Ireland goals to his name, having recently entered the international scene, making his debut last year.
The arrival of a winger at The Hawthorns perhaps won’t surprise many Albion fans, with the club having recently lost Jeremy Sarmiento after he was recalled from his loan by Brighton.
In other West Brom news, an Express & Star journalist has shared what a lone Albion fan did to the Wolves staff amid a pitch invasion during the recent FA Cup clash between the clubs.
