Mikey Johnston passes West Brom medical as rush to complete paperwork with Celtic begins

Mikey Johnston is “poised” to complete his loan switch from Celtic to West Brom on Deadline Day, according to the Express & Star.

The news outlet reported online (1 February) that the 24-year-old completed his medical this morning after he was given the green light to leave Celtic Park on loan.

It will be a straight loan which includes no option or obligation to buy, with the winger still well-regarded in Scotland but just struggling to come by first-team football for the Hoops this season.

Paperwork will now need to be finalised before tonight’s 11 pm deadline to make sure the deal is confirmed.

Tick tock

It appears that all of the hard work has been done as the club look to add their third attacking loan option to the squad this month, following the arrivals of Andi Weimann and Callum Marshall.

Carlos Corberan will be happy with this bit of business and will hope the formalities are all sorted smoothly before the transfer window slams shut tonight.

Johnston is a Republic of Ireland international and after playing so little this season, he will be keen to demonstrate what he is capable of during the second half of the season at The Hawthorns.

He has two goals in six appearances for his nation and has found the back of the net 13 times while providing 12 assists thus far in 92 appearances for his boyhood club.

Corberan will be hoping the player continues to find the back of the net as he looks to push his side toward a return to the Premier League.
