West Brom permanent transfer stance emerges as seven-figure Blackburn approach tabled for Caleb Taylor
West Brom rejected a seven-figure fee for Caleb Taylor from Blackburn Rovers during the January transfer window, according to Marc Iles.
The Bolton News journalist reported on Thursday (1 February) that the Baggies’ centre-back was a £2million target for Blackburn before he made the loan switch to Bolton Wanderers in League One for the remainder of the campaign.
Carlos Corberan’s side are currently unwilling to allow Taylor to leave The Hawthorns permanently and have therefore only sanctioned a loan exit this month, as they view him as an important part of the side’s long-term future.
Big news
It is common knowledge that Taylor is incredibly highly thought of at The Hawthorns so it isn’t a surprise that West Brom were unwilling to entertain bids for the defender this month, especially from teams that they will consider Championship rivals.
However, given the current financial situation in the Black Country, it is slightly surprising to hear that Albion were in a position to turn down an offer of around £2million, especially for a player who isn’t currently key to Corberan’s side.
The Baggies are well stocked at centre-back currently, with the likes of Cedric Kipre, Kyle Bartley and Semi Ajayi all impressing this season, so it makes sense for Albion to loan out Taylor to gain some great experience at the top end of League One.
Hopefully, West Brom will be able to reject any further interest in the defender come the end of the season and Taylor can be a regular fixture in the Baggies’ backline for years to come at The Hawthorns.
