West Brom transfer news: New signing update emerges after Mikey Johnston joins from Celtic
West Brom are unlikely to make any new signings after securing the services of Mikey Johnston from Celtic, according to Lewis Cox.
The Express and Star journalist claimed on 1 February that as things stand, no new arrivals are lined up at the Hawthorns.
Aston Villa defender Calum Chambers was linked but that move is not going ahead before the 11 pm deadline.
Via Twitter, Cox wrote: “Top winger target landed. That – as things stand – is that for tonight and indeed this window.”
Good enough?
The Baggies have made some shrewd acquisitions in January and both Johnston and Andreas Weimann are likely to play an important first-team role.
It would’ve been nice to sign a new defender, especially someone like Chambers, as he would add maturity and solidity to the back line.
He’s versatile enough to put in a shift in the middle of the park too, but that’s obviously not going to happen before the deadline.
Hopefully, this is what Carlos Corberan wanted and the club haven’t let him down by not signing certain players in positions he wanted.
He’s done a very good job with the limited resources he’s had at the club and is being backed in the transfer market despite the takeover situation.
Johnston was the top winger target so it’s a good thing that they managed to get this deal over the line in good time.
In other West Brom news, the Baggies are now extremely keen on securing a deal for a Premier League striker in January who made headlines this season.
