West Brom news as Carlos Corberan eyes free agent transfer
Carlos Corberan is still looking to bring in a free agent at West Brom as he looks to bolster his midfield options despite the transfer window closing on Thursday (1 February).
Speaking to the Express & Star on Friday (2 February), the Albion boss said the club are evalutating players currently without a club as he looks to replace Jayson Molumby, who has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after ungoing foot surgery.
The Spaniard admitted that there is “no rush” to bring anyone in because he still has three midfield options at his disaposal, but he added that the “faster” a deal can be done the better.
“We know that we are going to play a lot of games in a short period of time and it is a position where we are still looking at options to see if we can improve,” said Corberan.
“Depending on how long you don’t have a club it takes more time for a player to be ready or it takes less time. But there are other things that can be involved.
“If you know the player, his history, the value that you give to the player and of course again the financial possibilities to approach the player because the fact a player is free doesn’t mean he is cheap. So at the end you need to put all these things together to see the possibilities.
“The faster the better because it will cover better the different possibilities. Right now let’s say there’s no rush because we still have three midfielders.”
Difficult
It does make sense for Corberan to still be scouring the free agent market as he clearly feels he is short on options in midfield heading into the next few months.
The injury to Molumby was a real blow for the West Brom manager because the games are going to be coming thick and fast and four central midfielders are needed for the run in.
It could be difficult to find someone that can come in and add quality to the group, though, as there is a reason why they are a free agent in the first place.

Perhaps the Spaniard has someone in mind that he would like to bring in, but with the financial situation currently an issue, wages could still prove to be a stumbling block.
But he does sound reasonably confident that something could still happen, so this will be an interesting situation to keep an eye on.
