BBC journalist reveals what West Brom fans sang about Andi Weimann v Birmingham
West Brom fans were singing “There’s only one Andi Weimann” after the new arrival scored his first goal for the club in an 84th-minute winner against Birmingham City at The Hawthorns, according to Ged Scott.
The BBC Sport journalist shared the news via their live matchday blog [3 February, 16:50], with Albion fans teasing their opponents because of Weimann’s previous links to Aston Villa.
Scott also shared the reaction of West Brom fans to what eventually proved to be the winning goal, claiming it had taken the roof off The Hawthorns.
West Brom have a new hero
Weimann’s arrival as the first new addition to Carlos Corberan’s squad in the January transfer window was immediately a promising one to provide more depth up front, with the injury to Josh Maja and Jeremy Sarmiento departing from his loan spell.
His first goal in Albion colours couldn’t have come at a better time for him, late in the game against his previous team’s rivals who were giving him plenty of stick after he was introduced from the bench, and being able to give some back at full-time would have been sweet for him.
With performances like that, he’ll very quickly find his new home at The Hawthorns. The fans are already singing his name after just two appearances, which says it all, and he could prove to be a vital part of this squad.

A playoff place, and everything that comes with that including the opportunity for promotion, is still very much on the cards for West Brom, and it’s performances like that which aren’t necessarily the best but get all three points, that make the difference.
