Grady Diangana will miss West Brom clash with Ipswich after AFCON development
Grady Diangana will not be available for the Championship clash between West Brom and Ipswich Town on 10 February, according to Lewis Cox.
The Albion winger was part of the squad that beat Guinea 3-1 in their African Cup of Nations quarter-final clash on Friday (2 February), although the winger didn’t get off of the bench and remained an unused substitute.
While DR Congo and Diangana are not guaranteed to book their place in next Sunday’s (11 February) final, they will have at least secured their place in the third-place play-off fixture, which will be played on the same day as West Brom’s trip to Portman Road.
Writing on X (2 February) The Express and Star’s Cox said: “Diangana’s DR Congo also make SFs with fine 3-1 comeback win. Albion winger didn’t get off the bench v Guinea. So very best outcome is back for Cardiff at home on Tuesday (13 February) night.”
Unfortunate for West Brom
It’s quite impressive that the Baggies’ only two players on international duty this month have managed to progress right into the last stages of the African Cup of Nations, with Semi Ajayi and Nigeria also booking their semi-final place on Friday.
After a difficult few seasons at The Hawthorns, Diangana has managed to find his feet again in a West Brom shirt with some truly influential performances and some “unbelievable” moments of skill that have blown away the likes of Tony Brown.
It is a shame that after such a positive start to the campaign, Carlos Corberan has had to do without his star winger for an extended run of games, but the Baggies can at least be happy that Diangana will return to the midlands fit and ready to play straight away.
The Albion winger has barely featured in DR Congo’s run to the semi-final and that seems unlikely to change at this stage of the tournament, so Corberan should be able to throw him straight back into the starting XI against Cardiff City.
