West Midlands Police react to alleged racist abuse in West Brom v Birmingham

West Midlands Police have shared that they are investigating CCTV at The Hawthorns after an allegation of racist abuse from Juninho Bacuna in West Brom against Birmingham.

The midfielder reported the incident to referee David Webb during the second half of the Championship clash, with West Brom already confirming they will push for the toughest legal punishment.

The Force have said that they will seek to prosecute anyone found committing the hate crime, with support being offered to Bacuna during this time.

Lewis Cox of the Express and Star shared their response: “We do not tolerate racist abuse in any form either in football or society in general, and we will seek to prosecute anyone who commits hate crime.”

Disgusting from West Brom fan.

There is no room for racist abuse anywhere in the world, nevermind just in football and the alleged person must be dealt with in the toughest manner.

How it is 2024 and we are still talking about incidents such as these is beyond us, and something has to be done to make sure that it can be stopped.

After the shocking scenes at The Hawthorns against Wolves, the negative light just won’t leave the club at the moment, and these fans that are involved need to take a long, hard look at themselves.

Right now, until anyone is found and after, full support has to be given to Bacuna, no one should ever be abused when simply doing their job, it is not good enough.

West Brom have already released their official statement reacting to the incident, and thankfully, a lifetime ban is on the cards for whoever is caught – that is the minimum they deserve.
