Nathaniel Chalobah counting down days until West Brom exit after Hawthorns cameo
West Brom got back to winning ways with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Birmingham City on Saturday (3 February).
The huge three points in the Championship ended a two-match losing run for the Albion, who had lost to Norwich City and Wolves in the league and FA Cup respectively in late January.
Substitute Andreas Weimann was the hero, with the recently-signed attacker netting the only goal of the game at The Hawthorns against the Blues.
Also appearing from the bench was midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah, who emerged as a 70th-minute replacement for Cedric Kipre.
But unlike match-winner Weimann, Chalobah failed to have any real impact on the match, with the midfielder touching the ball just 13 times, and completing just five of his nine passes (56%), as per Sofascore.
Equally worryingly for manager Carlos Corberan, Chalobah failed to win any of his four duels, and was unsuccessful in his only dribble attempt.
Chalobah running out of time at West Brom
As reported by the Express & Star (25 November 2023), the midfielder’s contract at The Hawthorns expires at the end of the season. And given his failures from the bench against Birmingham, it seems that Chalobah’s days at the club are numbered.
Hope could, however, still arise for the player given that West Brom are light in that area, and indeed because Alex Mowatt’s deal will also expire at the end of the current campaign.

Mowatt and Okay Yokuslu have largely been favoured by Corberan in midfield this season, with Jayson Molumby another option in that area of the pitch for the Baggies.
