Don Goodman shares West Brom play-off prediction, names Southampton and Ipswich

West Brom News Speaking to Don Goodman

West Brom News is delighted to have Don Goodman joining its team of Albion experts at the start of 2024. Goodman played for the Baggies between 1987 and 1991, scoring 60 goals in 140 league appearances to make him one of the most prolific strikers in Hawthorns history. Goodman also played for Bradford, Sunderland, Wolves, Motherwell and Walsall in his career and since hanging up his boots, he's been working in the media with Sky Sports. Now, Don has agreed to join West Brom News and we're absolutely thrilled to share his expertise on the Baggies every week.

Don Goodman believes the play-off picture will look a lot clearer for West Brom one way or another come the end of a gruelling February period.

The Baggies kicked the month off with a 1-0 victory over West Midlands rivals Birmingham City on Saturday (3 February).

Albion now have a week off, before quickfire matches against Ipswich Town, Cardiff City, Southampton, Plymouth Argyle and Hull City.

Speaking to West Brom News, Goodman said of the upcoming run: "The Ipswich and Southampton games spring off the page.

"It's a massively important month for West Brom with all those important fixtures.

"If at the end of February they are still fifth, and still have that cushion on the chasing pack, you'd fancy them to finish in the play-offs."

West Brom's February fixtures

February really could cement West Brom's place in the play-offs as we fast approach the business end of the campaign.

Carlos Corberan's men kicked things off in the perfect fashion with an Andreas Weimann-inspired win over Birmingham.

Up next is a flailing Ipswich side, who may have lost momentum but remain arguably the third best team in the division.

Southampton are the team now in possession of second place and they visit The Hawthorns three days after Cardiff rock up.

While the Ipswich and Southampton games are eye-catching, the clash with Hull on 24 February could be massive.

As things stand, Albion are three points above the sixth-placed Tigers, so that is a six-pointer of sorts.

Incredibly, in three weeks' time there will be just 12 games of the regular season remaining.

Hopefully for West Brom, there will be three more games on top of that to look forward to.
