West Brom: Concerning takeover update shared as Wolves fallout continues
Adrian Goldberg has heard suggestions that the events that unfolded at the Wolves game could have a negative impact on the takeover situation at West Brom.
The fan violence that marred the Black Country derby on 28 January was seen the world over and remains subject to FA and police investigations.
US businessman Shilen Patel is said to be the frontrunner to buy out Guochuan Lai, but there have been no updates since that FA Cup fourth-round match.
Speaking on The Liquidator Podcast [4 February, 27m 4s], Goldberg said: “I’ve had suggestions made to me – and they’re no more than that – that the recent incident of misbehaviour at the stadium, which some fans downplayed, might impact our possible ownership situation in a bad way.
“Of course, in the end you look hard at what happened last week – a fool, an idiot in the wrong section, you can rationalise it that way.
“Other people not steeped in English football culture will be put off by the things we saw last week and this week at The Hawthorns.”
Takeover latest at West Brom
The shocking scenes that unfolded at The Hawthorns could have massive ramifications as far as West Brom are concerned.
While supporters are fully aware that a small minority were to blame for what happened, someone like Patel, for example, may not see it that way.
For Patel, or indeed anyone else still with an interest in buying the club, they would have seen the shameful incidents and likely thought twice about proceeding.

West Brom fans will hope that is not the case and that a takeover has been edging closer behind the scenes over the past week or so.
Ultimately, we are being drip fed tiny bits of information, usually weeks at a time, and nobody knows truly what is going on.
What we do know is that a loan repayment is due later this week, so maybe that will force the club to be a little more open. Because if this takeover attempt collapses, Albion could be in serious financial trouble.
In other West Brom news, Goldberg has also raised concern over a “controversial” figure potentially involved in the takeover.
