West Brom injury news: Update emerges on defender Martin Kelly
West Brom defender Martin Kelly is ruled out and unavailable to train for the next 10 weeks, according to journalist Lewis Cox.
The Express & Star journalist took to Twitter on 5 February to report that he suffered a muscle injury as he tried to build up his fitness after a lengthy absence.
Kelly is yet to play this season as he was ruled out with an ACL injury and now appears to have suffered yet another setback.
Cox wrote on Twitter: “Out and unable to train for another 10 weeks sadly. Muscle problem as he tried to build up post-lengthy absence.”
Kelly cannot catch a break
Kelly’s string of injuries has been incredibly unlucky, severely limiting his playing time for West Brom.
He had returned to action for the under-21s and he was expected to be a few more games away from being in contention for the first team.
Matt Jarvis also sent him a congratulatory message on Instagram and the feeling was everything was heading in the right direction.
At 33 years old, Kelly’s age compounds his misfortune, as it becomes increasingly challenging to recover from injuries quickly.
With his contract at the Hawthorns expiring in 2024 and his recurring injury woes, the Baggies have a big decision to make, especially considering the uncertainty surrounding his ability to stay fit consistently.
The defender’s situation highlights the unpredictable nature of the professional game and serves as a reminder of the fragility of a player’s career, particularly as they approach their mid-30s.
