Carlos Corberan wowed by Caleb Taylor as West Brom amid Bolton loan

Carlos Corberan has tipped Caleb Taylor to be a future West Brom first-teamer at The Hawthorns following his loan move to Bolton.

Taylor had been earmarked to feature more for Albion, but after just one league appearance was sent out on loan moving to League One side Bolton on transfer deadline day despite the recent injury crisis at the club.

The Baggies academy graduate made his debut for Bolton against Barnsley on Saturday (3 February) and Corberan admitted that it wouldn’t have made sense for Taylor to stick around at the club as he is already stocked in his position.

However, the West Brom boss admitted that he is very happy with Taylor’s progress and predicted that he will be a future starter at the club as he holds all the conditions to succeed.

Speaking via Express & Star (8 February), he said: “To have him here, with five centre-backs and (only) three midfielders doesn’t make sense. It’s better to have four centre-backs and four midfielders, from my perspective.

“Sometimes you need to take some risks thinking in the future of the club, the future of the club are our fans and our players.”

“If you ask me ‘are you happy with Caleb?’ I am very happy and I think he is going to be our future centre-back because he has all of the conditions to be an important player for West Bromwich Albion.

“If you ask me if it’s right now? I don’t think right now is the moment, I think after a short-term loan will be his moment. That’s why in some moment you need to take some risks.”

Taylor loan move perfect for development at The Hawthorns

Corberan is absolutely right in his comments for Taylor as it certainly would not have been smart to stunt the youngster’s growth and development by having him stick around at the club.

Taylor is a talented young defender and needs to be playing football and a loan move to one of the best-performing clubs in League One made perfect sense for him.

His first game for the Wanderers certainly showed that he’s got what it takes to thrive at the club.

Despite playing just 68 minutes before being withdrawn through injury, the centre-back made five clearances, one tackle and one interception, winning four of his six aerial duels and recording a 100 per cent ground duel success rate, as well as a 50 per cent long passing accuracy. [Sofascore]

West Brom are certainly well stocked at centre-back right now and Taylor isn’t ready for first-team action so a temporary move away seemed the perfect way forward for both parties.

Corberan certainly has an eye for talent and when he predicts Taylor to be a star at the club, Albion fans should stand up and take notice. His development and learning at Bolton will be intriguing to follow.
