Simon Jordan namechecks West Brom in Crystal Palace relegation admission live on talkSPORT

West Brom have been namechecked by Simon Jordan live on air in a new admission about Crystal Palace’s current situation in the Premier League.

Palace supporters have been vocal in recent weeks over their unhappiness with the direction of the club under Roy Hodgson’s management and Steve Parish’s ownership, complaining that they are just standing still.

While former Palace owner Jordan sympathisers with the fans’ discontent, he has urged them to look at clubs like West Brom who are “nowhere near the Premier League” to see how much worse things could be at Selhurst Park.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Thursday (8 February, 10:08) he said: “West Bromwich Albion, a side with significant history and a decent football club that are probably comparable to Crystal Palace, nowhere near the Premier League again.

“While I don’t think you should look at others and say, I should be grateful for what I haven’t got, Palace fans have got to get a tad more appreciative of what others like me and my predecessor Ron Noades would have wanted to achieve and couldn’t.”

West Brom may be Premier League-bound under Carlos Corberan

It is a tad harsh to suggest that West Brom are “nowhere near” the Premier League at the moment, as under Carlos Corberan, the Baggies have an excellent chance of returning to England’s top flight in the coming seasons.

Albion currently sit fifth in the Championship, four points clear of seventh-placed Coventry City and seem set for a top-six finish and a place in the playoff places, a remarkable achievement considering the off-the-field issues at The Hawthorns.

While there is still plenty of football to be played between now and the end of the campaign, the Baggies have been impressive so far this season and have stood toe-to-toe with some of the Championship’s biggest teams.

Most Albion fans would be more than happy with a few seasons of mid-table mediocrity in the Premier League like Crystal Palace are currently experiencing, but it seems pretty unfair to pick out West Brom as the side to try and avoid becoming considering the other fallen giants in English football.
