Journalist reacts to ‘Ludicrous’ West Brom v Huddersfield development
Express and Star journalist Lewis Cox has slammed the West Brom v Huddersfield announcement made this week.
The Baggies took to Twitter on 8 February to announce that the game against Huddersfield will be moved to Sunday, March 10 as it’s been selected for live broadcast on Sky Sports.
This makes it five straight weekends where their games have been rescheduled in order to be shown live on TV.
Via Twitter, Cox wrote: “It’s ludicrous, frankly. Nothing new but maybe getting worse as you say. Some of it owes to being in a PO race rather than, say, 13th. But even so, it’s so bad.”
Not ideal for matchday West Brom goers
On one hand, traditional Saturday 3pm kick-off times are cherished by match-going supporters for their consistency and convenience.
Conversely, live TV coverage benefits fans unable to attend matches in person, allowing them to support their team remotely.
This enhances accessibility and inclusivity, especially for those unable to make it to stadiums due to various constraints.
Nevertheless, continuous rescheduling can disrupt fan routines and traditions while potentially impacting matchday revenues for local businesses.
Balancing the needs of match-going supporters with the desire for broader accessibility through TV coverage remains a challenge for clubs and broadcasters alike.
Baggies fans have every right to be aggrieved by this but as Cox mentions, it’s them paying the price for their own success and the play-off battle gets heated come the business end of the season.
Sundays could see the regular matchday goer skip the game and that may affect the atmosphere at the ground.
Hopefully, by the time, Yann M’Vila is officially a West Brom player as a short-term contract update has emerged.
