West Brom: Financial blow on cards at The Hawthorns as £900m EFL deal update shared

West Brom could be dealt a financial blow as the Premier League is reportedly not in a position to fund a £900million package to EFL clubs.

BBC Sport reported on Friday (9 February) that a package has been agreed, but there are issues regarding where the money should come from.

The report by Simon Stone cites sources as saying the deal has also stalled due to stipulations regarding cost controls in the Championship.

West Brom takeover latest

A number of Premier League and EFL clubs are said to have held a “good-natured gathering” this week to discuss the matter.

The hope is that any issues can soon be ironed out in order for the clubs, Albion among them, to receive their share of the large sum.

However, it has now been nine months since news of the package first emerged and it has still not been set in stone.

Guochuan Lai was heavily criticised during his time at West Brom.

It was previously suggested that some EFL clubs requested half of their share upfront, which would benefit West Brom immensely right now.

The Baggies are hopeful of a takeover being completed soon, with news emerging on Friday (9 February) that a £60m agreement could be rubber-stamped in the next month.

However, until that officially goes through, the club’s financial situation is perilous to say the least. All we can hope for is that the money starts coming in soon so that Albion can remain stable.
