West Brom win race to sign Yann M’Vila in out-of-window signing as fresh confirmation arrives
West Brom have won the race to sign free agent Yann M’Vila ahead of Ligue 1 club FC Metz, according to a report by L’Equipe.
The Baggies had been keen to add a midfielder to their squad from the free agent market after long-term injuries to Jayson Molumby and Adam Reach in recent weeks.
And the club have got their man in ex-France international M’Vila, who looks set to sign a contract until the end of the season after choosing The Hawthorns over France’s top flight.
“Free since the end of his contract with Olympiakos, French midfielder Yann M’Vila is about to bounce back at West Bromwich Albion, in the English Second Division,” they wrote.
“Some French clubs, including FC Metz , have studied the feasibility of bringing Yann M’Vila (22 caps in blue) back to Ligue 1. But it is in England that the 33-year-old midfielder should commit.”
West Brom could be set to seal ideal midfield signing
The Baggies need midfield depth after injuries, with the only available options to Carlos Corberan currently being Okay Yokuslu, Alex Mowatt and Nathaniel Chalobah.
But one thing the club has built it’s team on in recent times under Corberan is the need for defensive stability and the ability to move the ball quickly in possession.
Despite being 33, M’Vila was at one point a highly-rated midfielder in Europe whose game has always been built around those exact attributes and his experience at such a high level could be instrumental in the team’s push for promotion.

You’d be hard-pressed to find a more effective midfield than Yokuslu and M’Vila at this level with their experience, and with Corberan leading the way that’s a fantastic foundation to build attacks on.
It’s a solid signing and beating top flight clubs to his signature can only be seen as a good thing. These are exciting times for the Baggies.
