Carlos Corberan shares what Daryl Dike says about injury after West Brom draw at Ipswich

Daryl Dike has injured his Achilles and says it felt “similar” to the last such injury he suffered for West Brom, according to Carlos Corberan.

Express & Star’s Lewis Cox reported via Twitter what the Baggies boss shared with him on 10 February after the 2-2 draw at Ipswich Town, with the problem seemingly to the other ligament from the one that kept the striker out for months last year.

Dike looked devastated as he went down off the ball and was subsequently driven away on a golf cart just 10 minutes after coming on, but there is, as yet, no idea of how long he faces out.

Cox wrote: “It’s an Achilles for Dike again. The other side, left I believe, than last time at Stoke.
No conclusions in terms of length of time or severity but Corberan just told me Dike says it felt similar.”

Corberan said, as per the Express & Star website: “I still cannot give you confirmation, we need a scan. The injury is to the left foot, the same place as his Achilles injury.

“We don’t know if it is as serious as the previous injury. You can imagine how he feels, I said to him we need to wait for the results.

“We will be with him, but we need to be patient. He had a similar feeling of his previous injury.”

If this Achilles issue is anything like the last one then it is simply awful news for the 23-year-old, having only just returned in January from months of rehab.

He had been forced to undergo surgery after suffering the previous injury back in April, so to only be back in action for a month before being hit by a completely new blow is incredible.

What Dike must be feeling with the prospect of the best part of a year out again already is hard to comprehend, in what would be the fourth serious injury he has suffered since arriving at The Hawthorns two years ago.

The draw at Ipswich was only his 31st appearance for West Brom in that time, illustrating quite how bad his injury luck has been.

The frustration all round at the club will be obvious but it is hard to feel anything but sympathy towards Dike himself as the significance of what had happened became clear to him while he was driven off at Portman Road before he burst into tears.

Injuries are a fact of life in football but it feels like the Baggies forward can’t escape the purgatory of them no matter what he does, and this one is already looking depressingly similar for him.
