Don Goodman reacts to what Ipswich fans did as Daryl Dike stretchered off for West Brom

Don Goodman was “really proud” of the Ipswich supporters’ reaction as Daryl Dike went off injured once more for West Brom at Portman Road.

Reacting live on the Sky Sports match coverage on 10 February the pundit gave the home fans credit for applauding the distraught American as he was driven round the perimeter of the pitch.

The 23-year-old was visibly upset after his 10-minute substitute appearance in the 2-2 draw and ex-Baggies striker Goodman was pleased that the crowd appreciated the gravity of the situation.

He said (1.58pm): “Credit the Ipswich fans, they are behind him, giving him a round of applause. They know, and that’s good to see. Good to see.”

He went on: “The Ipswich fans are recognising that and I’m really proud of them. Every single person is clapping.”

Goodman praises Ipswich fans over latest West Brom devastation for Dike

There has been no shortage of decidedly negative developments in recent Albion matches relating to the supporters so it was a small mercy that the Ipswich fans appeared to appreciate Dike’s plight.

While there was some choice language being sung from the stands as players argued on the pitch in the immediate wake of the Albion striker going down off the ball there looked to be a widespread understanding of the situation as the golf cart was brought on and the seriousness was clear.

Dike and everyone else at West Brom will be desperately hoping that this problem doesn’t turn out to be of the same severity as the one that kept him out between April and last month, but the early indications aren’t especially hopeful in that regard.

It is probably a measure of quite how unfortunate he has been in his two years at The Hawthorns that even the opposing support were apparently united in support for him in a crucial clash between two Championship promotion rivals.

The injury luck in Carlos Corberan’s squad has been miserable this term, and Kyle Bartley was also withdrawn at Ipswich, but even in that context the repeated, serious set backs that Dike has been forced through surpasses everyone.
