Tom Fellows stuns BBC pundit live on air in West Brom draw at Ipswich Town
Tony Brown was blown away by the “absolute brilliance” displayed by Tom Fellows as he scored a wonderful solo opener at Ipswich Town.
The former Baggies forward reacted live on BBC Radio WM on 10 February after the youngster turned Luke Woolfenden inside out down the left before cutting onto his right inside the box and firing low into the near corner in the 18th minute at Portman Road.
Fellows, 20, showed great strength to stay on his feet against the defender and then wrong-foot the Ipswich keeper with his finish, in a game which dramatically finished 2-2 in stoppage time.
Brown said (12.49pm): “That’s a terrific solo goal there. I tell you, that’s just sheer persistence from Tom Fellows. He could have gone down twice but he stayed on his feet.
“He knew he had the beating by pace of the full-back. He’s gone by him and he’s done the most important thing which is he’s slid it in the goal, he’s scored the goal.
“All that good play, all that pressure, he’s made that goal for himself there. Absolutely brilliant…
“It’s just the sheer determination of the lad, absolute brilliance.”

Fellows wasn’t attracting transfer interest from Championship rivals and the Premier League prior to his new contract announcement for no reason, and exactly why was on full display for his goal.
It was one of the major positives on a event-filled afternoon in Suffolk that also had some heavy negatives as the Baggies were ultimately unable to close the gap on the side immediately above them in the table.
Nathan Broadhead levelled the scores immediately after the interval despite suspicions of handball in the build-up, and Carlos Corberan will have been hugely frustrated to be pegged back as soon as he sent his players back out.
John Swift, only on to replace Daryl Dike after another devastating injury blow to the American striker, then fired the visitors back ahead from range, but again they couldn’t hold on as Omari Hutchinson hit a 93rd-minute equaliser.

That the Albion had managed to lift themselves after the delay caused by Dike’s emotional departure was impressive, but what would have otherwise have been seen as a solid point felt lesser considering how it came about.
And the latest injury blows, with Kyle Bartley also going off, only added to the endless fitness headache that Corberan has been forced to navigate all season.
