Crystal Palace in hunt to sign West Brom ace Josh Griffiths as transfer news emerges

Crystal Palace are in the hunt to sign West Brom goalkeeper Josh Griffiths during the summer transfer window, according to Alan Nixon.

The Sun journalist reported via his Patreon on Saturday (11 February) that Roy Hodgson’s side are looking for a new goalkeeper as they expect Sam Johnstone to leave Selhurst Park if he remains on the bench for the remainder of the season.

Baggies stopper Griffiths is one player who has caught their eye as he continues his first full season of Championship football, even if he has remained rooted to the bench behind Alex Palmer for the majority of the campaign.

West Brom could lose Josh Griffiths to Crystal Palace

West Brom won’t want to lose any of their first-team players this summer as Carlos Corberan’s squad isn’t blessed with masses of depth already, but if Albion were to lose a player, Griffiths may not be the worst option.

The young keeper has impressed whilst on loan away from The Hawthorns throughout his career so far, but he hasn’t quite been able to make that step in Corberan’s first-team this season, mainly because of the excellent form of Alex Palmer.

When Griffiths has played, in the FA Cup and League Cup, he has looked like a solid keeper, but nowhere near as effective as the Baggies’ number one. If a large bid arrived from Palace for his services, Albion would have to consider it.

Money is tight at The Hawthorns currently and West Brom may not be able to turn down a chance to raise some much-needed funds for somebody who is ultimately a back-up option.

This deal could entirely depend on what sort of interest emerges in Palmer come the end of the season, especially if he continues to impress between the posts.
